Week 2 - Animation basics – the Bouncing Ball We also have had invaluable support from London's Karrot Animation, who have helpfully provided us with character rigs for use in the course. Blue Zoo in particular has been looking recently for junior animators with Harmony experience.

David is an experienced animator and rigger in ToonBoom Harmony.ĢD Animation is experiencing a big revival, with many productions being animated right here in London. We're delighted to welcome our animation tutor and Blue Zoo rigger and animator David Ridges to teach this class.
TOON BOOM HARMONY COURSE SOFTWARE
The 8 week course will cover the basics of locomotion and mechanics in animation, and also 2D rigging, and aims to get students familiar with the software, to enable them to apply for the many studios in the UK and overseas that are embracing this software package. Users praise the flexibility and intuitive nature of the interface. Toonboom Harmony is a very flexible software package, that allows the user to combined 2D rigged puppet-style animation with the ability to add hand-draw elements in the traditional way. In particular, Blue Zoo, Aardman Animation, and Brown Bag Films in Manchester all use Toonboom Harmony as their principal 2D animation platform. In recent years 2D animation has experienced a significant revival, both in the UK and overseas, as Studios such as Blue Zoo, Aardman Animation, and Brown Bag Films adopt the software.ĢD Animation is experiencing a big comeback, with many 2D productions being animated in the UK. Learn the fundamentals of 2D animation over 10 weeks, one evening a week (Tuesdays), using Toonboom Harmony, one of the leading software packages for the creation of 2D animation. That is the best I can do.Last call for our 2D Animation evening class in Toonboom Harmony with Blue Zoo's David Ridges on Wednesday 7 October 2020. I teach at Phoenix College and you could sign up for one of my classes, Art184( ), Art284, Art185 or Art245. PS - Relative to contacting me by phone, well, this forum does not support private messaging and I’m not about to post my phone number or email on a public forum so I’d have to say no unless you live in Phoenix Arizona. He is pretty awesome and really understands 2D animation both traditional and tradigital.Īgain, as I mentioned there are lots of free sites that are quite good on YouTube and Vimeo. They have quite a few tutorials by Dermot O’ Connor. While the tutorials they have are not bad you would probably be better off putting your money in LinkedIn Training (What use to be ). I was answered by them basically saying no. I actually wrote to someone there and asked if they plan on making any more tutorials on media arts.

They just released a few tutorials on Maya 2019 but that is the only thing and my expectation is we won’t see anything new. Since Pluralsight took them over they have virtually stopped all tutorials on media arts. I subscribed to Digital Tutors which is now Pluralsight for probably close to 7 or 8 years now.
TOON BOOM HARMONY COURSE SERIES
wish they’d “reboot” the series and cover all the new stuff since 2015! they have one where the instructor painstakingly steps through each and every node effect with examples, etc. Pluralsight (formerly digital tutors) has a decent set of pretty thorough training courses on harmony, but it looks like they haven’t had any new ones since 2015 (there was one added in 2016) which is unfortunate. I love doing it and teaching it but it is work and you need a passion for it. Good luck and most import of all, have fun. The Animators Survival Kit by Richard Williams ( ) There are some excellent references to get you started.

Get an understanding of the basic principles of animation. Looking at LOTS and LOTS of reference videos of things moving.
TOON BOOM HARMONY COURSE MOVIE
I love animation and teach at a local community college but no one starts by making a Pixar movie short.
TOON BOOM HARMONY COURSE FULL
Move up to a swinging pendulum and some other simple rigs before getting into full blown character animation. Seriously… you should spend significant amounts of time just trying to get a bouncing ball correct. Go to their learning page on their websiteĪlso as the previous comments mentioned you really need to walk before you run. In addition ToonBoom actually has some adequate tutorials to get you started. Tony’s instruction is geared almost all the time to all of the Harmony packages from Express to Premium.Ī few other good sites are Jon Taylor’s site A better place to perhaps start is with Tony Teach
TOON BOOM HARMONY COURSE PLUS
While I love Stylus Rumble her tutorials often assume you have a fairly significant working knowledge of things plus just about everything she does is with Harmony Premium, which most beginners do not have.
